The Age of Reason

At seven years old, the church believes that you reach the age of reason. This is when people are considered to be able to make moral choices and can therefore sin. You must take part in First Holy Communion so that you can repent and return to a state of grace. The concept of sinning and shame is ingrained from such a young age.
